there are definitely valid criticisms to Signal - phone number required, not being able to run your own server, reliance on intel SGX - but it strikes a pretty amazing tradeoff balance, grateful that it exists, most people would be better off if they used it more

unreal how many people tell me "Signal is compromised" then proceed to use imessage for 90% of their chats

You can get a relatively anonymous number from Target in the US, their POA can activate most prepaid brands with only a name, and email address, and most stores will use the store address for the account, can also pay cash.
