GOOD MORNING ☀️

Bird of The Day: Ruddy Duck

Ruddy ducks were imported into the UK in 1948 by conservationist Sir Peter Scott. As a result of escapes from wildfowl collections in the late 1950s, they became established in Great Britain, from where they spread into Europe. By the year 2000, the population had increased to around 6,000 individuals. This duck's aggressive courting behavior and willingness to interbreed with the endangered native white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala), of southern Europe, caused concern amongst Spanish conservationists. Due to this, a controversial scheme to extirpate the ruddy duck as a British breeding species started; there have also been culling attempts in other European countries.

alarming … at least it’s a cute duck 🦆?

It’s my favourite duck based on name and looks but it’s behaviour is quite troubling.

Gm Norman. You would love my area, we are a big migration point here. At the feeder this morning we have had 8 different species.

That sounds amazing. I have a bunch of bird going the backyard and the birds have begun shopping the market for their ideal home this season.

Our Junkos will be leaving soon to migrate north. They are my favourite.

I am curious how do you feel about magpies?

We don’t gave them out on the east coast but they are one of the smartest creatures in the world.

They are the coyote of the bird world. Their squawk is shrill and i have seen them take on cats. I wish that they nest near my “enemies” windows

I had no idea. I just wish for my enemies to have spotty wifi in their homes.
