I recently did this in Batumi, Georgia. An old woman on a sidewalk was selling bundles of a plant that had a few small purple flowers on them. As I was swapping 10 lira for a bundle of plants she began crying. I put my arm around her, fished out another 5 lira, and then she insisted we take the her whole lot. We only took two bundles. A passerby said "Why are you giving that woman money? She's selling grass!"

In the past someone taught me to always take what the person is selling. Let them keep their dignity; they are not begging.

I know that my current situation could change to where I'm in the same position.
