Do not try and exit the vim. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth. There is no vim. Then you'll see that it is not the vim that exits, it is only yourself.

These kids and their “vim”.

Back in my day vi didn’t need to be improved.

…but also, the second command I ever ran in a Unix shell was “view” which took me to vi and I has no idea what I did. Just a bunch of tildes on the side of the screen.
