Adapted from Michael Ondaatje's 1992 novel, the film follows a burned man recalling his past through flashbacks, revealing his identity and pre-war love affair.

The film won nine Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress, and two Golden Globes.
