If you compile a node from source you may be advised to download the entire blockchain, since the network is a don’t trust verify mechanism. Once you’ve verified, if you decide to trust the network and only keep the most recent block data you can prune the block storage.

Running a node in itself is not complicated, but understanding why you may or may not need to store the whole blockchain is important.

Yeah it can be as simply as download, install, run.

But if you don’t get your feet in the water, you’re always just going to see what’s on the surface not understanding how deep the water gets.

You can swim and surf the waves of the deep water or play it safe and stay in the surface.
