oh... i think it's entirely possible it could fail. though failure will look like a global stateless cyber government, and be a complete reversal of the intent of the original bitcoin white paper. which would result for the misuse of the financial concept as literal instead of encoded.
bitcoin was never intended as a monetary system - but a safeguard for archiving data and information.
