What the Wikipedia article doesn’t cover is that apparently the reason so many seemingly unhinged occurrences originate in Florida is because a state law there requires police reports to be accessible in an open database (I’ve never verified this)

So journalists can trawl this dbase of craziness in a way you can’t in other states.
