# F-Droid Open Source App Store

F-Droid is the free and open source (FOSS) app store that only has open source apps, without any of Google's spyware or anti free speech code embedded.

You can use a web browser to download the F-droid.apk file from https://f-droid.org and sideload it onto any Android phone.

You can then use the F-droid App Store to install open source apps, and replace the spyware apps that came with your Android phone, such as a keyboard that doesn't log or spy what you type, an email client, camera app, photo gallery, etc..

Since the F-Droid apk file is not coming through Google Play, you should verify the file signature before you install it. This helps to ensure that it was not modified by anyone when you downloaded it.

Instructions for verifying the F-Droid.apk file can be found in the next post. There is no known GUI method for verifying the .asc signature.

# IzzyOnDroid F-Droid Repository

F-Droid has a lot of apps, but for one reason or another, many apps are not included on F-Droid.

So IzzySoft has put together a 3rd party F-Droid repository called "IzzyOnDroid"

[Disclaimer from IzzySoft:](https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/info) "I have not thoroughly checked the .apk files available here. As stated above, they are directly taken from the repositories of their respective developers. Some basic measures are taken, though"

The APKs are scanned with VirusTotal, and then given a security ranking according to that result. See the 👉 [IzzyOnDroid Security Section](https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/info#security).

To add the repository, go to their 👉 [web page](https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid), tap and share the QRCode image to your QRCode app, where you need to copy the info to your clipboard.

([Barcode scanner](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.atharok.barcodescanner/) can do this)

Then you open F-Droid, and go to

- Settings

- Repositories

- plus sign (in the upper right)

A window pops up w/boxes auto populated. Click OK.

After that, you refresh repos & enjoy the new apps!
