TRUMP’S TARIFF WAR:

THE CHAOS BEGINS

Since returning to office, Trump has turned global trade into a battlefield. His latest round of tariff threats isn’t just posturing, it’s policy apparently.

🔴 #Europe: Tariffs coming because the EU is “very unfair.” #NATO allies now expected to hit 5% of GDP on military spending. Pay up or else.

🔴 #Canada & #Mexico: 25% tariffs land February 1st unless they stop migrant flows and drug trafficking. Oil might be spared—for now.

🔴 #China: 10% tariffs incoming unless fentanyl stops.

🔴 #BRICS Nations: 100% tariffs threatened if they dare challenge the U.S. dollar.

🔴 #Colombia: 50% tariffs if they refuse to accept U.S. deportation flights. It avoided tariffs—for now—by conceding and accepting deportation.

🔴 Even #Denmark isn’t safe, tariff threats over Greenland 😂. They refused #Trump ’s demands on, but the tariff threat remains.

This isn’t business as usual. The White House confirms these aren’t bluffs—many tariffs start this week. And the world? It’s gearing up to hit back. Canada, Mexico, and the #EU have already warned of retaliatory measures. The global economy is staring down a trade war, and the opening shots have just been fired.

But here’s the real question: What if it works? What if high tariffs force companies to move production to the U.S.? What if every country starts making everything for themselves? Does America boom while global trade collapses? Or does the world fracture into isolated economies, driving up costs and slowing growth for everyone?

The bet is on. Now we see how it plays out.

#nostr Friday night thoughts.

I think the bigger issue what is the actual standard for dialing back these tariffs - like “10% tariff unless fentanyl stops” what the fuck does that even mean? How do you assess that? And it completely ignores that supply will always emerge to meet demand - it’s not that China is MAKING American do fent, nor is it that China is the only place fent can be produced and then brought into the US. Finally, what happens when countries and regional blocks decide to produce for themselves (or they just buy from China and others) specifically so that DONT have to buy things from the US. We gunna hit people with tariffs for not buying enough of our stuff to incentivize them to buy more of our stuff. We might see some temporary seemingly positive effects but this is deep idiocy all the way down.
