I agree. In addition, an inherent part of the statement is, "all the bitcoin is not just for one single entity." In regards to banks and other such institutions becoming custodians and exchanges for bitcoin, it's a good and logical next step. Banks should be integrating bitcoin withdraws and deposits into their apps. In addition, they should support lightning withdraws and lightning services to newbies.

I would be delighted to have that ability in my current banking app! I could withdraw bitcoin to my own node and keep dollars in my bank in case I can't use sats directly or indirectly via gift cards. Everyone everywhere should have their banking app allow them to get some bitcoin and move it into their own custody. I would prefer the withdraw to be instant with no wait post exchange.

I will say that there's an interesting balancing act in regards to tradeoffs here. Since there's still a centralized entity facilitating the bitcoin acquisition process, you might need to introduce daily amount limits for instant withdraws. You could also allow people to opt into custom waiting times with no amount limits on withdraws. I dunno, this is stuff that's already being done.

Though, I could see an argument here against the idea of supporting centralized exchanges of any kind. Surveillance could be a big thing but that depends on several questions. Like what is your threat level like and do we have enough people using bitcoin services to make it extremely difficult for a malicious entity to attempt "devious actions" upon individuals or in mass?

There's definitely a rabbit hole here but I think it's not useful to be paranoid for no reason. There's usually enough evidence to support that most people are probably not out to get you. 🤔
