instead of steel backup, which I don't like, I use Shamir secret with a 4-of-6 scheme of trusted people who don't know each other.

Nice. For the average pleb I don't recommend atypical setup, especially secret splitting. Too easy to outsmart yourself. Generally speaking, stick with #BIP39 or multisig.
