Growing up in Atlanta, GA, I thought Christmas lights were fun, but a little silly.

Then I spent some winter time in snowy upstate NY. Everything is gray: the ground is covered with snow, and they skies are cloudy gray. The only bright things were the colorful Christmas lights on the houses.

Then I realized how important those lights are to the poor bastards living there all winter.
