Technically not usually with actual conscripts, as Russian law prohibits them from being used outside Russia's borders; that prohibition is usually followed. That's why Russia is offering huge bonuses for signing up: they desperately need the volunteers.

That said, this specific video was allegedly filmed in Kursk, Russia, so in this case they might have been conscripts.

Anyway, fuck them. They could have died an honorable death revolting against their commanders. Or they could have just accepted jail, or surrendered. They chose to fight for Russia instead. They deserved their deaths.

I’m actually surprised they’d follow that kind of rule for conscripts. Though perhaps Russian-style conscription is more like “hey, if you value the health of your family, volunteer.”

Russia is a nation of laws. And it's not a strict dictatorship either. Putin needs to follow rules to stay in power. Part of the social deal is that the use of conscripts has limits. That's also one reason why Russia is importing North Koreans to fight in Kursk.

We saw the same kind of thing in WW2 Germany. One of the reasons why Germany lost was the German public was never willing to agree to the level of rationing that, eg, the British public was. Germany was fighting an offensive war by choice. Hitler couldn't stay in power without keeping the German population relatively comfortable.

I'm fairly sure that the last two years of WW2 insofar as Nazi Germany was concerned, any illusion of comfort was if not gone then fast evaporating. By the time the Allies had reached the Ardennes and fuel rationing and hard scarcity was a thing, you'd be back to making deliveries by horse cart and bycicle.

Hitler ruled by brainwashing, fear and secret policing and while Russia technically has a functional representative democracy, let's not kid ourselves that Putin has not clearly set the standards of public discourse irt the "Special Military Operation" that is, establishing a fear of repercussions if you manage to fart in the wrong way in public. (And his Gestapo is just called FSB).

Yes, eventually Germany was fucked. At the end, and post-war, it was to the point where a lot of Germans who couldn't work simply starved to death.

But as I said, earlier on one of the ways they screwed themselves over was not taking the war seriously enough. Hitler, like Putin, had limits to how far he could push the German public.

Now, if Germany hadn't been filled with so many psychopaths convinced of their own superiority, they might have surrendered earlier in the war, before things had gotten to the point where Germans were literally starving to death... But if German society had been better they probably wouldn't have waged war in the first place.

Yep… fuck ‘em. That’s the moral answer to a problem we pretend online to have any idea about

I've been in Ukraine during air raids; I've heard Russian drones flying around buildings I was in, and been near explosions multiple times. I've given a fair bit of money to Ukrainian military units – after all, their sacrifices are the only reason I can even visit Ukraine.

It's not hard to figure out what's going on. Anyone with a shred of decency and intelligence knows that Russia is the evil party here and needs to be eliminated.

Russia Bad, NATO good

100% accurate statement.

So former US ambassador Chas Freeman, former chief of staff to the Secretary of State Larry Wilkerson, and former high level CIA analysts Larry Johnson and Ray McGovern don't have "a shred of decency and intelligence" ?

You are so out of your depth on this issue it's not funny; it's woefully pathetic and shows you as a highly deficient individual in some important areas.

The US govt has hired lots of people without a shred of decency...

Have you ever listened to Freeman or Wilkerson? Freeman in particular is remarkably intelligent. And any listener to Ray McGovern will appreciate how 'decent' a man he is.

And all of them have a far, far deeper knowledge of geopolitical history over the last 50+ years than you do.

It's not hard to figure out who is good and evil when one side regularly drops grenades on civilian busses in a city that was never there's to try to take land that was never there's.

Russian culture is just evil. It needs to be wiped out. No different than how wiping out Nazi Germany was necessary for Europe to have peace.

Are you even aware that Ukraine was constantly bombing its own civilians in the Donbas from 2014 on? And Nazi Germany was defeated largely by the USSR, while the current Ukraine rëgime harbours many within its most senior ranks who openly idolise Nazi collaborator Stefan Bandera and openly profess Nazi ideology (and motifs).

Seriously, you are so ignorant on this topic; it's not worth engaging with you on it. I'll just continue to call out your ignorance & bigotry as I continue to follow your account because you're usually such an intelligent voice on Bitcoin matters.

The claim that Ukraine was bombing civilians in the Donbas is a Russian lie. Russian meanwhile has likely tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians in eastern Ukraine. Quite possibly hundreds of thousands. Hard to know exact numbers as Russia doesn't allow international observers in to count bodies.

Ukraine does of course get to bomb all the Russian soldiers in Donbas that they want. Prior to 2022 Ukraine had killed tens of thousands of them.

As for "Nazi ideology" 😂😂😂 it's a country lead by an openly Jewish president. Russia meanwhile allied with Nazi Germany, and there's clear similarities with Nazi German desire for more land and what Russia is doing right now.
