El Zonte is too tough for beginners imho. The break and the terrain (rocks) make it hard to learn, and that can erode enjoyment.

I'd highly recommend Pelicano surf camp; very rustic and great vibe. There's a great value resort called La Casona a few minutes walk away. They have all sorts of accommodation from tents to en-suite rooms, and half the price of El Zonte.
