thats a straw man argument and a false choice. covid death rate was like 0.3%. government responses around the world were absolutely ridiculous and the rules were unevenly applied.

millions die in automobile accidents worldwide every single year. is anyone banning driving because of it?

It is a fact, that hospitals around the world were nearly at their limit or running at their total limit (100% capacity).

When COVID started no one could even estimate how deadly it will be, because there was know good data about it.

So it is far away from a strawman argument. When a virus spreads as fast as COVID did and society does not expect it to be fatal for many, the worst case scenario can easily end in a revival of Black death, where a big percentage of society died. In order to make sure this does not happen it is the best strategy to react with high precaution until there is enough data to be certain that it is not as fatal. And until there are vaccines to lower the extreme harm viruses can have on the human body and its immune system.

i understand the sentiment but they knew how deadly it was very early on in 2020 based on infected populations on cruise ships. it was basically like a natural experiment because of the isolated population and the mix of demographics, young and old.

and when all was said and done, locales with greater restrictions didn’t do any better in terms of deaths per capita than locales that were less restrictive. so what was achieved exactly?

also i urge you to consider all the negative consequences and the human rights violations due to government responses like…

freedom of movement restrictions, mandatory medical interventions, mass censorship, learning loss for kids and delayed development, job losses, small business closures, the worldwide economic impact, inflation, the general unfair/uneven application of the restrictions.

I could accept your points, when there would be sever measurable impacts today of these restrictions. In #china they defnitly use it undefnitly to control society in unseen ways, independent from the health aspect.

But since the economy did recuperate completly very fast, there is just no basis in my eyes to speak about wrong doing. It is nearly impossible to go for a nearly perfect decisiontree in emergencies in general. But I rather live in a society, that saves precious lives. Since all other aspects can be compensated, while a unnecessary death can hardly be compensated.

So to say I would defnitly be more than OK for exactly the same response to a next equal emergency in Switzerland. I hardly could speak for every other country in my notes.

But currently there is much crazyer corruption from far right politicians in USA, Belarus, Russia, Hungary and Denmark or far left in Venezuela, Colombia, China. Crazy amount of wrong doing without this type of emergency. At most it would be imagenary emergencies declared by their government in order to rule with Military and police to restrict very basic human rights. We should open our eyes to these very extreme human rights violations instead of convicting some maby over the top restrictions, that were disabled completely now.

Weird how you're not also trying to clarify that the COVID pandemic is still ongoing, not past tense
