I consider this interaction a good example of why I’m here in nostr…I don’t need an algo fed deeply personal social media experience…

yeah you don’t want stuff shoved down your throat by an algo but you also don’t want new ppl to go completely unnoticed. there has to be a fine balance. also algo has turned into a bad word for no reason. it’s just software. big companies have always used software to their advantage to make more money. that doesnt mean algorithms themselves are bad. you can absolutely build a discovery system that helps surface new voices without turning into manipulation or noise.

Following hashtags helps with that, imho

i believe there is a major discoverability issue on nostr

I dunno…I think interacting with others is the best way to get discovered. Hashtags help too.

definitely the best way but not scalable. also there is a new user issue. you can't expect 15k ppl to do wonders

I also think centralized service abuse will over time send more people to nostr…but I don’t expect 25% market penetration ever.

question is what % of the population actually cares about that stuff. thats probably the core issue. i know people who straight up tell me they want more cookies so systems can track them better and show more relevant things.

It’s just a matter of time. Maybe a lifetime or two.
