Never taste them, what they are?

canaries, the little yellow birds? there is wild canaries all over the island, i've even seen them around the airport, they are green with yellow/reddish chests and there is dark patterns over their wings

they are usually seen in large numbers all congregating together sitting on power lines or in trees, and the males have a very extensive repertoire

they are really a type of finch, you can see this by the shape of their beak and how small thety are

you wouldn't even get a mouthfull out of one if you cooked them, they are smaller than quails

Hahaha aaa yea right I was confused, but I know what you mean now, we eat them in my place too, but never saw them in Madeira

noone in their right mind would eat canaries, seriously wtf

blackbirds would at least be enough to feed a child in a meal lol... there is a famous english poem about eating blackbirds baked into a pie

but really, the only bird you see flying around that is worth eating is the pigeons and doves, i'd guess the doves taste better

also there is a lot of ducks and geese in the ribeiras, they would also be good food

anyhow, yeah, it's like i said, you can't hardly hear the canaries on the south side of the island except in the spaces between the towns, because of how noisy it is, but you will often see them, they feed on grass and weed seeds, i used to watch them over the back of my place in Sao Vicente when the weeds down in the field below my place was in seed

they eat little seeds, and yeah, you can usually find the feed that they like at most grocery stores labeled "canarios", it's made out of stuff like millet and other small grains

yeah, pigeons are a poor people food all across europe... you often see pigeon coops in the abandoned houses, there's loads of them in DayZ and Stalker games
