Just thinking about this nostr shadowban system that amethyst has deployed.

There's a way we could beat it.

If all the helpful welcoming people who are actively checking the introduction, asknostr etc. hashtags were to simply mute and report devs and large accounts.

Only need 5 people working together to create a shadowban on amethyst.

Shit you could even just make 5 bots that reply "welcome to Nostr" on introduction notes and one person could effectively shadowban anyone they want.

Some people are already abusing the feature by the looks of things.

It only applies to amethyst users.

It has been great, they have good customer service, had one issue with my wallet and they fixed it as soon as I mentioned it.

Yakihonne is the one I use the most, the least buggy and most polished, but it's missing some features.

Primal is better for watching videos and has a trending feed and Livestreams.

Amethyst has everything, but I don't use it much because it's slow to load.

It's best to use at least 2 or 3 clients to switch between if one isn't working.

But watch out because sometimes they have conflicts and mess stuff up, remove your profile picture or unfollow people etc.

That's why I only use those 3, generate a new account to try different clients and find a few clients you like that don't have conflicts with each other

Kinda hesitatent to send this because I don't want to get targeted with the shadowban, but if I say nothing than the censorship already wins.

Another idea that would be easier.

Everyone who's against censorship should download amethyst, mute nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z and nostr:npub142gywvjkq0dv6nupggyn2euhx4nduwc7yz5f24ah9rpmunr2s39se3xrj0

Then delete the app.

He will either remove the censorship or suffer from it himself when new users stop learning about amethyst.

Do the same to any other apps or Devs that support censorship.

Like you said before it only applies to amethyst users so it wouldn't stop people learning about it.

But you might be onto something, if people on amethyst weren't seeing him that would be enough for him to reconsider.

The shadowban doesn't actually do anything to prevent spam unless it's an older account, spammers and scammers make new accounts every day, they get called out quick.

People can mute spammers.

Mute annoying people.

It should be everyone's right to decide for themselves who they don't want to see.

Or you can just fork Amethyst and disable this option by default. It was done before in a real fork, but nobody ended up using it they didn't see anyone being shadow banned, only the scammers were gone.

1. Mutes in Amethyst don't do what you are implying they do. They are private, known only to the user, and don't contribute to "shadowbanning". Only reports in Amethyst are used in deciding what posts to put behind a click through. This can be disabled as well if the user wants.

2. It's more likely people would just unfollow a new user making false reports against long time Nostr devs. They have trust built with years of building and community interaction. New users haven't.

3. What relays do you use? How do you know they aren't censoring you? If you really want to guarantee you don't be censored, you would run your own relay.
