Immanuel means "God is with us". It's probably another name for Messiah, you'd be able to validate that by checking the hebrew. "learns to reject the bad and choose the good" refers to him coming of age, 12 years.

All that stuff about virgin births tho *cough*. Never sat right with me, nor the resurrection. If you want to read some actual history of a man who was at first loved by the Jews and then condemned by them, and in that time between, considered to be "the king of the Jews", check out Simon bar Giora. The narrative of Life of Brian is partly based on this, and all the contemporary history relating to the many revolutionary organisations trying to throw out the Romans.

This is all fascinating, but I'm trying to understand how rules such as the Ten Commandments even apply to us. We commit all these 'sins' on a minute-to-minute basis: killing, stealing, adultery, etc.

I'm not trying to destroy anyone's faith. Believe me, I'm not! I'm just trying to understand their potential validity.

Again, please don't be offended.
