Conclusion

The Lightning Network would not exist without Bitcoin’s Nakamoto Consensus Blockchain because users would not have a place to store the bundled proof of their off-chain transactions.

Just like how users bundle all those Lightning transactions and put a small proof in the blockchain, we’re going to bundle up all the Nostr data and put a small proof in the blockchain. Instead of providing instant payments like Lightning does on Layer 2, it may be able to provide data storage on Layer 2 without the horrible security risks of shady side-chains.

It’s the same methodology as Lightning, with Bitcoin’s Nakamoto Consensus Blockchain at Layer 1 and Nostr+ZKCSP Lightning on Layer 2.

Just had a quick read. Interesting ideas.

Not sure the Bitcoin blockchain would have capacity for regular syncing though. Let’s say a billion users want to sync once per month, that’s 33m per day, but Bitcoin can only handle 500k tx per day. They’d only be able to sync once every 5 years, assuming nothing else was in any of those blocks for 5 years.

But the blockchain you use isn’t that important. You could use something else like Dogecoin or BSV which has higher capacity.
