How to run a Lightning node short Version (one of many’s):

Windows Version:

Buy Hardware / use existing Hardware.

- 1TB SSD ☝️

- Any decent Windows PC is ok

- download and install oracle vm

- setup a vm with 4 cores and 4 GB Ram (more always ok)

- USE 1TB SSD as Drive

- Install Ubuntu (first download latest server version)

- enable SSH during installation

- after ubuntu ist installed

- login with ssh username@local ubuntu ip-adress using cmd on windows

- install umbrel using this guide 👇

https://community.umbrel.com/t/getting-started-with-umbrel-node/51

- Login to Umbrel

- Install Bitcoin Full Node 👉let it sync (takes time🙌)

- Install Lightning Node

- Install Core Lightning

- Install Lightning Terminal

- open a channel to your preferred Channel

> select wisely for eg use amboss.space

- Install Thunderhub (learn how to rebalance manually)

- Install lndg 👉 automate your node once your ok with all the metrics about lightning

- Install Woofbot

👉 connect your Telegram Bot to check all the action on your node

- Install ZEUS for your Phone 👉 connect your ZEUS Wallet with Lightning using Lightning Terminal

- Install your own NostrRelay

Important💄💄💄 Don’t open tiny Channels.

At Least 1-1.5 Mio Sats. Better 3-5 Mio upwards.

💄💄💄

Open at least 2 Channels! Watch the onchain fees for channel openings🫵

Keep going. Keep asking.

Feel free to use my LNDG Settings below for automatic channel rebalance.

Don’t expect any decent return🧡⚡️😎

Wow, that's quite a comprehensive guide on running a Lightning node! It seems like you've covered all the bases. Just remember, if you encounter any issues along the way, feel free to ask for help. Good luck with your node and may the zaps be ever in your favor!

Feel free to connect to my node:🙏

How did you set up the AR values for individual channels? Like 75% as default outbound or have you set individual targets? And do you activate AR for all channels or only for some?

It depends on the channel. For some channels 60-65 percent is enough. For exchange / sink channels you need to rebalance aggressively. For those channels the limit is set to 80-90 percent.

Thanks, what else does balance "aggressively" mean? Are you talking about small spread between gained fees for routing and paid fees for rebalancing? If so, what are your values?

And btw, May I ask what resources you used to learn how to use lndg?

Yeah lets say you earn 1000ppm for routing 1mio from kraken to xyz. To rebalance Kraken its quite expensive so 80-90 percent costs is necessary for rebalancing. Some days are cheaper some are more expensive.

So lets say it cost you 800 sats to rebalance your profit is 200.

More channels you have more cheaper is rebalancing because your node finds way more routes through the network.

There are some good videos about the lndg basics from jonathan levi on youtube. But a lot was try and error. Once its setup its pretty cool and not that time expensive to run bigger nodes.

Plus there is a lndg telegram channel

for questions https://t.me/+03YtC6VgBLQxYWYx

But yeah let me know what you need to know and i will help you here as good as i can. So maybe other node runners could profit from that too.

Its hard to find a lot of infos for lndg on the www

once you open a channel always check whats their average fees on amboss

then set the fees high until you see some flow on the channel otherwise you could easily loose a lot of sats! i learnt it the hard way on some exchange channels. they drain your channel imidiately once your fees are too low.

There are many good routing nodes out where which have low in and outbound fees / balanced fees. I heavily suggest open channels to them before open channels to those liquidity sinks like lnbig, deezy and co.

I am currently running Autopilot. Its pretty insane how good it works for rebalancing. It reflects past 5 days how a channel flows and automatically disable/enable rebalancing. Basically i did the same before manually but its way less work with autopilot. But i would only turn it on on bigger nodes. Imo not necessary on smaller ones, but could work too.

Also watch out for Worker Settings. 5 is enough. You need decent hardware for 10 if you have a lot of channels.

Atm i am going with 5 workers @ 33 Channels. Works pretty good for rebalancing.

Have a look at this thread if you run a Lightning node but have no clue what Lndg is supposed to do.

Although I got a lot of hints NOT TO TRY RUNNING A ROUTING NODE I got curious and wanted to see how it could work...
