I'd give up any part of my country where the residents there don't want to be part of my country...
...because I'm not an authoritarian nutcase.

What about people who lives there and still want to be part of your country? Let them die or become refugees in their own country? What about natural resources (coal and wheat for example), infrastructure and energy facilities such as hydroelectric power stations and nuclear power plants, and other related to the area economic interests?
