I see a lot of stupid shit here, especially smart people with naive, paranoid, extreme politics.
It also helps that there's no algoritm that's designed to maximise outrage. Once you realize not every post is something stupid, you become nicer :-)

I think it has more todo with the fact that the userbase on nostr is a fair bit smaller than on other social platforms and has a more homogeneous crowed. I mean we're pretty much all here because we don't enjoy the other platforms. I also don't think not risking a ban enables friendlier communication. There are a lot of stupid people and stupid people do stupid shit, to put it frank. Time will tell how well the platform handles misuse.
