Not a fan of Windows announcement to block bypassing the Microsoft account requirements by editing the registry, and definitely not a fan of seeing advertisements baked into my OS. As the people in the comments pointed out, gaming on Linux has greatly improved with Steam and Proton—in some instances, it even performs better.
Ubuntu is an excellent intro distro. There are also some distros that come with all the necessary gaming stuff pre-installed (WINE dependencies, obs-studio, 3rd party codec packages such as those for gstreamer, 3rd party drivers such as NVIDIA drivers, and small package fixes here and there) like Nobara that you might want to check out.
Good on you for making the switch.
