I have been seeing a lot of references to 'kind event's.' Almost completely tech illiterate here.
What is a 'kind event' please 🙏
Everything on nostr is an event, from posts to replies to lists to profile data to zaps to likes, etc, and so on. Everything is an event. A kind-1 event is a regular text note, for instance. Here’s a list of them:

Literally everything you do on Nostr is some kind of note/event.
Liked someone's post? That's a kind 7 note.
Followed someone? Your kind 3 note got updated to include their npub.
Post an article on Habla.news or Highlighter? That's a kind 30023.

That's a kind 9735.
Distinguishing the kind of note you are posting to a relay allows each client to determine what sort of information they are reading, and how to handle it in the client's UI, if that client supports displaying the event kind at all.
By making Olas' images a separate kind, clients can choose to display them in a separate feed from kind 1 notes (#Amethyst); display them in the same feed as kind 1 notes (I don't know of any at this point that do so); ONLY display that note kind and no others (#Olas); or ignore that note kind altogether (the vast majority of other clients).
So, if I am understanding in a more simplistic manner. Kinds are just ways of how the data is distributed? Or is that wrong?
Kinds are how the data is classified, so that a client knows what do do with it, if anything at all. For instance, if your profile note wasn't a different kind from regular text notes, a client might display it in the main feed each time you update it.
How data is distributed is by posting notes to various relays, regardless of their kind, though some relays do restrict what note kinds can be posted to them.
