Thank you! I like this place, was invited few days ago and it looks promising. First time I like a decentralized social platform. I will give it a go.

It's pretty wild!
What client are you using?
I'd recommend iris for desktop browser.
It has the ability to filter the global feed by N degrees of following separation from your npub, so you see a lot less spam and can still discover new users.
Yes, I am using Iris right now. I am just curious to see more people, don't have problem with spam yet.

The follow distance filter is on by default.
If you turn this off, you will start seeing everything that your connected relays are passing along.
What you see depends on what relays you're connected to as well. Some of the default relays in Iris have a tendency to disconnect and reconnect and that causes notes to appear and disappear in your feed. Look at the relay list and delete any that show white dots periodically. Then go to nostr.watch and add a few new ones. Add 3-4 that are geographically close to you. And then add 3-4 that are located in other countries that speak your native language, like UK and Australia.
It’s mostly bitcoin ppl and the community is a bit cringe, but I’m sure it’ll get better.
It started with Bitcoiners. They were naturally the first to see the utility in Nostr. It will continue with every marginalized group that has ever been shadow banned or overtly banned from mainstream social media. Whether it grows beyond that will depend on how good the clients get. Most people don't care about censorship resistance, they just want a flashy UX and interaction with all their friends and fam.
I guarantee the bitcoin ppl are going to start calling for censorship once ppl start posting the n word. You’re right tho, they don’t care about censorship resistance despite claiming to.

It's a new world where anybody can say anything and you have to take personal responsibility for how you react to it.
They have been doing that since the beginning, but those voices don’t get amplified here. It takes more effort for less reward to sustain being an asshole than it does to just be a decent person.
Assholes don't get zapped.
“Hey Nostr mods, this racist fascist thinks there should be free speech online, please ban”

"Nostr mods" 🤣
Hilarious that the poor bastard thought there was anybody moderating this shit show.
It wouldn’t bother me so much if it wasn’t so hypocritical of the crypto ppl.
I'm eagerly awaiting the .eth crowd to migrate over here so we can start calling them out on their bullshit.
Do you think tribalism in crypto is a good or a bad thing?
What crypto people think of as tribes is mostly the product of marketing.
I think it's irrelevant. Ignore the cultish behavior and focus on the technology.
Insofar as it relates to #Bitcoin vs “Crypto”, it is important and necessary. No one should be fooled into thinking they are one and the same.
Tribalism between crypto projects is irrelevant (to me, at least).

I’m not a crypto fan, but eth is definitely worse than bitcoin.
There is only one other cryptocurrency that I use besides Bitcoin, and that is Monero.
Vitalik was like, “What if we made a copy of bitcoin, removed all the best properties, and its only use case will be to create scams?”
Hi. I’m not a bitcoin person. I also can’t see what you’re replying to for some reason.
That means that none of the relays that you're connected to are holding the original note and they have to fetch it from elsewhere.
Got it. Thanks for the info. I’m still figuring out which relays to use.

Are you using Iris?
Go into your relay list and delete any that occasionally have a white dot next to them. These ones are not staying connected and causing issues with your feed.
Go to nostr.watch and find some new ones to add.
Add a few that are geographically close to you (there's a map for this) for speed.
Add a few in other countries that speak your native language to expand your horizons.
Oh cool. I def want to find some other languages.
I’m on Damus right now. Tried to log into Iris but couldn’t figure out the nos2x thing and didn’t have the energy to keep trying.
I haven't been able to get the Android Iris app working because I can't input my nsec. The browser version works great. It's a bit resource hungry though. I cleared my browser cache last night because it was storing over 7GB of data. It's already back up to over 4GB this afternoon.
Do you know what makes it so resource hungry? How does it compare to the others?
I did try logging in on my browser. I read it’s best practice to use an extension but that’s the part I couldn’t figure out.
It caches everything locally for speed. Fine if you're on a PC with plenty of RAM and disk space. I have 64GB RAM on my desktop PC.
Sounds like what you read about using an extension was probably referring to having a lightning wallet extension integrated. Check out Alby at getalby.com.
Got it.
Thx. Will check it out.
Nvm. I can see it now.
