Aside from the questionable hygiene when seasoning the fish, anyone who’s ever had pirarucu knows how delicious that meat is. Too bad that even as a Brazilian, I hardly ever eat it.

Could you understand what that guy was saying?

Despite his heavy northern Brazilian accent — which, believe me, can be hard for even us to understand — he says he paid someone to cut that barrel so he could use it to fry the fish, and that the person wouldn’t charge him if they liked the taste of the fried fish. The challenge was the size of the fish, and they weren’t sure if it would turn out tasty. Of course, in everyday life, the fish is usually prepared in smaller portions.
