You don't have to go all-in at most comic-cons, you won't get a big booth anyways. They usually have a sad little corner of mini-sized tables for the first-timers or so to sit. But you'll get to spend time with your fellow losers. Remember, your real art doesn't matter, no one cares. Gotta fan it up.
