Slave labor. Seriously, tipping has its roots in slavery. It's a crime to pay waiters $2.00 an hour, then requiring them to share their tips via tip-pooling and expecting the customers to make up the difference. Fucking criminal.

Contrast that with the European system, where waiters are paid a liveable wage, get 5 weeks vacation and healthcare. They don’t depend upon, nor expect tips. You get a real person and you have time to sit after your meal and digest…
