More stable connection means less packet loss which results in (possibly) more submitted shares in a given timeframe. Also, many people just don't want to leave WiFi running everywhere. For me personally, I live in a concrete bunker and WiFi is shitty here, so the ping is significantly lower for me via LAN, think 230ms vs 4ms.
