Best of luck, any new language takes time to master. I can follow scores but actually reading the music takes me ages. My approach to keyboards is hit it and hope, then fix in DAW. (Or hire an actual musician).

Loads of evidence suggesting reading/playing music can help maintain cognitive skills. Well worth continuing imo.
