Damus is not the community. It’s a window into the Nostr protocol. There are and will always be shithead trolls on the internet. The difference is in how we deal with them. In an uncensored protocol we adapt and use mute and web-of-trust to avoid them, and they forfeit potential zaps because of their actions.

For some reason, on Primal specifically, there are a few people I have muted and it has been unsuccessful. No matter what I do, I still see their content.
