What was the first book you read that enormously impacted you?

I'd pretty much grown bored with reading by about the age of twelve. Everything seemed so puerile and small. Then my mum took down dad's collected edition of the Lord of the Rings and handed that to me. With no context or explanation. Anyone else remember this cover?

That made me the person I am today.
