a multisig to what? coins that aren't yours?? liquid is still custodial. it's sleight of hand. they let you own the keys to an IOU to make it feel like you own the keys to something.

I think that's an acceptable trade off for cheaper fees and no channel management. Better than Wallet of Satoshi anyway. Most importantly it supports async payments.

You're mostly right. Its not ideal but mainnet transaction fees and times are terrible and non custodial Lightning is far too fiddly and doesn't support async yet. 🤷♂️ Hopefully things will improve with time.
