"Telos" can mean purpose/aim/goal, and it can mean terminatio/completion/perfection. Both work here.

Christ is the recipient of the Abrahamic promises, as well as the one faithful servant who fulfilled the Deuteronomic Law and merited eternal life. By the giving/receiving of the Spirit, we are joined to him, and thus receive what he received.

I grew up in a church where it was taught that Matthew 5:17 meant we should still be observing the old sabbaths, feasts, and dietary laws, because Jesus did "NOT come to abolish them."

Now a Catholic, I much better understand what Jesus meant.
