At this point, not even 20% of the global population has been infected with covid. The mortality rate was below 1% and it was only that high because of elderly and immunocompromised people.

Elderly and immunocompromised people have a similar mortality rate for the flu and the common cold.

Sure, covid brought new risks, but lockdowns had a negative impact on herd immunity and obviously destroyed social lives and stole core memories from young people (high school seniors not having a graduation).

The best course of action would have been to caution elderly and immunocompromised people to self quarantine, and to allow young and healthy people to continue as normal. This would have allowed the virus to spread, and it would have built strong herd immunity within a few weeks.

There have been studies showing that infection acquired immunity is significantly more robust than vaccine acquired immunity. Specifically, infection acquired immunity has a protective effect over 90% for up to 18 months after infection. In contrast, vaccine acquired immunity falls below 90% efficacy after only 90 days, and is less than 50% effective after 6 months.

So, given the extremely low mortality rate among people under the age of 50, there should have never been a lockdown. Herd immunity would have protected more people if humans were allowed to live through the pandemic like we have evolved to. Instead, we all stopped getting infected, stopped socializing, stopped working, and started getting paid exorbitant amounts of money for it. The lockdowns caused the worst inflation the world has ever seen.

And that’s not to mention the danger of poorly developed vaccines.

The pandemic would have been less significant if there were no lockdowns.
