If it were a centralized, top down platform, you would be right. But the fact of the matter is Jack has zero authority over Nostr. The protocol can’t be controlled from the top down, by design. The only way he could have any authority is if he ran a relay, but he’s chosen not to.
He’s just a normal guy here who happened to donate using his personal wealth. He isn’t obligated to anyone.
