Nostr (Leaderless):

Ads 🤔

Looking for ways we can bring advertising to nostr to help support devs and infrastructure. The community will need to buy in to a new way to see ads, one where it’s opt in and one where the data you share is selectively revealed. Advertisements have been around for a long time and it’s important that we get this right to help keep nostr networks running. Zaps will continue to be a way we can support the creators we care about, and we also need to bring in new support to help #grownostr

Not a fan I must say.

If some content is locked behind paywall, advertisement could be one way to unlock the content for “free”.

Would people subscribe? Are you aware of any such thing? People pay creators for porn (OnlyFans) but I don't have another example...

Vidéo à la YouTube, audio à la Spotify, movies à la Netflix… emergence of niche markets.

The twitter like experience of Nostr is only its core communication channel.

#[2] paid $20 for an ad on ourchan.org 🙏🫂

I'd be curious to have nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m's thoughts on the short term/long term business model of a decentralized network like nostr.

I know a lot has changed since then, but some things we can compare nostr to are the internet, emails, etc.: all these things that are decentralized and based on open protocols. I think they were first developed in universities, without a real BM (basically public funding through universities?).

On the other hand, current SN move to being subscription-based for users (e.g. twitter 🔵) and generate revenue for creators (many SN, not including twitter and FB ?). This tends to be easier with crypto.

So what's the next move in terms of BM for a decentralized crypto-boosted open network protocol?

I think the phrase “if you build it they would come” is overly romanticised and now would be a good time to go hunt for users as they would be a primary contributor. Ads can be a fraction of rev not dominators plus they’d want head-counts too.

Some examples of how other startups went abt during the early stages :
