Catholicism has produced beautiful architecture and meaningful traditions. But ritual abuse of children by clergy is not one of them.

Don’t outsource your moral compass to one of the oldest systems of mass control. That goes for all organized religion.

Sure, they offer community. But they also extract wealth and compliance from those taught not to think for themselves.

Well said. Those poor kids. Nobody should trust their kids alone with a man that they are not very close with.

It does appear that much of church religion has become following tradition and not studying of scripture.

Shame is a hell of a drug.

As someone who grew up in the Catholic Church, they brainwash you when you’re very young to the point where you feel guilty for questioning the church’s authority since you view them as extension of God. Once you start critically thinking for a second you realize none of it makes any sense at all

What I found perplexing growing up in the Catholic Church was how most people arbitrarily bent the rules for personal convenience. From a very young age you’re taught a very rigid framework of what is morally “right” and “wrong”. However, many people live very differently during the week and then revert back to that framework on Sunday. It confused the hell out of me until I was old enough to realize most of these people don’t critically think.

I believe this is by design.
