My uncle raised a bunch of money from investors.

Unfortunately, he spent all of it and then some on, well, whatever he felt like spending it on.

He was able to keep paying the old investors by getting money from new investors for decades and decades.

Recently, he ran into a problem: he'd borrowed all the money he could, and since he refuses to cut back on his expenses and use the money he's bringing in to pay his debts, it looks like he's probably going to default on his obligations.

Obviously a pyramid scheme, but he'll never go to jail, because he's my Uncle Sam.
