In recent years I’ve increasingly found celebrating birthdays a little strange.

First off, the day we are born is a day on the past. To me, looking back to find good moments is meaningless when we can create them now.

Second, giving people intense attention and love for a day out of the year, when most are unable to treat each other with common decency for the rest of it, is also slightly pointless.

And third, we are all equally important, every day. I don’t need to feel more important one day out of the year because I am a human. And whomever do, either need to experience unconditional love, or mourn the fact that they never had it.

I do my best to treat everyone equally regardless of when they were born, or where they are from, or what pronouns they decide to use.

No one’s birthday is more important than the next, so why celebrate?

Why can’t we appreciate each other fully, daily instead?

I get that, but another point of view might be that people who care about you may genuinely want to do something nice for you and celebrate you. Let them :)

When someone does something nice of you which you didn’t need or require it’s good to simply be grateful.

As for people who only show up during birthdays or Christmas, be grateful and move on. My opinion, of course :)
