TikTok - from "spyware" to "national security threat".

I feel like any website, app or even game coming out of China is now being instantly labelled as spyware or worse. Meanwhile the NSA is harvesting more data than ever and the exiting US administration was more of a threat to the national security of the US than anyone else.

You cannot make this shit up.

Exactly. Your phone OS is spyware you can't remove or contain (unless you replace with a custom ROM). But TikTok is a problem? What a sick joke

Yes, that’s true. But I’d rather have the NSA spying on me than enemy states spying on me.

What if they're just Chinese without the spy part? Most companies store company data. online stores, gaming sites, literally anything online. but if anyone in China does it, THEY'RE SPYING!

Without the spy part is obviously fine. But nothing as big as TikTok can exist in China without close political ties, and access.

You are right that data collection, even from US based companies is out of control. I haven’t used Facebook in years partly for that reason. I’d love to have a Roomba to clean for me but I don’t want it to send pictures of me pooping to Jeff Bezos. I still wouldn’t use TikTok even if it was US based.

Yeah I wouldn't even use tiktok if I'd get paid to use it.

We call it KYC and privacy policies.
