Aotearoa New Zealand is not a tropical country, despite our location in the fabled south pacific. Today I saw news that the country is facing an “unprecedented heatwave,” and there were record temperatures for the year.

The thing is, it’s 19c/66f today in Wellington, during this heatwave! The hottest parts of the country are warmer today, 31c/87f. This is not what most of the world would even consider to be a hot day. My daughter tried to go swimming but lasted only a few seconds in the water today.

Oh boy that’s really hot for NZ!

It was supposed to be 26C here in PN, but it only got to 21C. Weather is harder to predict for an island than a continent. Weather is harder to predict at these latitudes than others. Our weather is harder to predict than just about anywhere else on Earth.

Shouldn’t they say on the news something like, “No need to panic, it’s going to be only 31 degrees.”?! They need to use less Alarming terms. I don’t live there though, not on me.
