In this case there was a lot of trusted points of validation within the community, along with some of the points #[6] has already mentioned.
Moving forward for other future causes, #[7] is a great resource with utilizing multisig for large scale fundraising.
I like the multisig idea. I don’t know a lot about the tip jar technology of the Lighting tip bot, but using the jar as a front end with something like a 3:3 or 5:5 multisig to direct the funds would be pretty secure and trustworthy in my opinion. Being on layer 2 definitely changes things since its off chain, but we have ways to still be transparent other than on chain activity. Good suggestion!
Love your cause and was happy to contribute my small amount. But, it does bring up interesting questions. I feel it’s not an if, but when there’s a rug pull in the name of charity by a “trusted” community member.
