I think I may buy myself some books, any recommendations? Mostly looking in the homesteading/ permaculture realm

I would like to do a deep dive into composting , so any books or even podcasts would be great.

Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture

Helped me a lot.

I love this book, I have the second edition 🍻

I can't zap you 😟

I'd recommend (a bit aside) something on fermentation, if you're not already into it. Like The art of fermentation from Sandor Katz. But that's something else you've been asking for.

I love fermented foods. Learning fermentation could help my composting journey too

Thanks for the suggestion.

It absolutely opened my eyes. From raising dough for sweet buns or sourbread to preserving food or making some for basically free (like apple vinegar or sour milk), fermentation is powerful tool.

cough, tabacco, cough

Are you suggesting I ferment tobacco?

well, I don't have any other usage of that plant if not fermented...

Interesting, what do I do with it? Put it in my lip like chew? Use it in the garden?

I'd suggest to smoke it as all we smokers do. but hey, feel free to experiment 🀣

I didn't know it was fermented to smoke. I was just picturing a wet salt water ferment

Here is an article I just read to get the basics

https://gardenlife.decorexpro.com/en/posadka/ogorod/paslenovye/tabak/kak-proizvesti-fermentatsiyu.html

I did my own cabinet for fun, but it was too small so I could make like... nothing. wasn't bad, but professional equiptment makes whole lot different results. so I gave up. (and had the plants just for decoration. until they died)

as with any fermentation it was a lot of trial and error. it was fun!

When I was active in a pipe club, several guys tried to make their own tobacco or even roll cigars. The main lesson I took from their bitching was that it's such a hassle it's not worth itπŸ˜…

Pun intended? 😏

cough, what? cough

I have free pdf copies of these I can share from my tor file server if they are of interest

Thanks. Ive wanted the Resilient homestead after listening to Ben Falk on some podcasts and forgot about it.

Elliot Coleman is good too. I have not read this particular book and I just built a greenhouse.

Here’s a couple days share link for my library on Tor

PS Natural Reader is a great web and iOS app if you want to turn any pdf book into audio to listen to as you work

I don't like to read books on a phone or computer screen, but I may be interested in checking them out to see if I want to buy them

I always recommend this one.

You had me at radical 🍻

Cheers

I have, it is great. I think I'll take it again. I don't have internet yet, so I'll have to go to the library or something. Thanks

Restoration Agriculture by Mark Shepard

Regenerative Soil by Matt Powers, Nigel Palmers Regenerative growers guide to garden ammendments, Any Sepp Holzer book you can get yur hands on.

I like Matt powers' videos. Sepp is great too I have a couple of his books

I have been doing his course of that book and the microscope one. The book itself is also excellent not the cheapest book, but it's massive and well worth the money for the knowledge in it. If you get it from him it's on sale atm. https://www.thepermaculturestudent.com/shop/

Its worth it for a tome of information. I will probably order from him. Matt Powers brings the level of nerdiness I'm looking for

Yeah its certainly tome worthy. You can always let me know here if you want some help understanding any parts of it.

Thanks, I just placed my order

The Designers Manual and Permaculture 1 by Bill Mollison are great, it can be tough to find a pdf, but there are some free pdfs floating around.

I have and read the designers manual. I would like to read permaculture one

Incredible!

It was a tough read, its dense

It is, I read it a couple of times.

Like 600 pages πŸ‘€

I have read several others but none that I’d necessarily recommend.

I’m not sure I recommend these volumes because of the coast, but they are comprehensive especially if you live east of the Mississippi.

This and of course Bill Mollison!

This book is great. I also have the big black book
