I think there's a growing middle ground of people who are paying more attention but can't climb the steep tech learning curve.

I poo-pooed the Umbrel users early on, but even though it remains a sorta-ruggable ecosystem, it really does offer some massive improvements that the vast majority of people would be too intimidated to try to put together themselves.

e.g. "Spin up your own bitcoin node and LN node, then run a VPN into your home network so you can connect your LN wallet!" Without something like Umbrel, that's a big "omg no" for most people. But with Umbrel, it's like two clicks.
