I am one of the safest, most cautious drivers i know. They installed a cab camera in my work truck about 2 months ago. I’ve had it covered with a piece of tape since. Boss called me. Said “it keeps flagging” and i have to take the tape off. I need a couple more months before i quit. Economic realities an all that. Spent the morning lifting coffee mug and phone to my face while giving the camera the finger and this thing: ✌️👅. I might not make it to quitting day.

Hang in there man. You are right to do that, but at the same time the company is being forced to do it by their insurance company. If they do NOT do that then their insurance rates climb precipitously. In reality it is simply a way to train people to be accustomed to a camera in their face every single day of their lives forever and get them accustomed to being severely punished if the camera turns off. You will be replaced by a camera lover and he will make more money than you because he accepts those situations more than you. Then he will wreck the truck and the insurance company won't have to pay out because of the records that the cameras produced. Your former company will have to eat the cost there since there is a 0 correlation between someone's tolerance of being watched with a camera an their ability to safely drive a vehicle...
I wonder what your bosses would say when that happens? You should present that idea to them as a reason for why they are forced to drive you out based on your camera-toleration as opposed to your driving ability? Ask them if they understand that the reason the insurance company gives them a better rate is because they will use the camera to NOT pay a claim whenever possible. See what they say...

I did explain to him about the encroaching surveillance State—facial recognition, etc. Made my case about China and totalitarian regimes creating barriers to transacting via data collection. Explained that i didn’t think it would happen the same way in the West, but it will manifest in some other nefarious way—and how everyone is sleepwalking right into it. I told him i felt like the soul of this planet was at stake. He is a pretty nice person—but is a normie. He just kept saying, “I know. Oh I know” lol.
This is why i’ve never pursued a career in the rat race. I’ve always lived on a shoestring, but i’ve got plenty of skills. This shit job just maximalizes my free time for the hours/pay i receive. But this stupid camera is a deal-breaker. Gonna hafta move on. It’s probably time anyway.
Understood. Do mention the Insurance company giving them a better rate because they can use the camera to NOT pay them in the advent of an accident. The size of the company matters so much in all this. If you are talking to a drone then it is a pointless conversation. If you are talking to an empowered owner/manager then it would get you promoted.
May I suggest the operation of heavy equipment as a potential direction you can go? I learned to drive a back-hoe watching Youtube videos, rented one and used it for demolition during a disaster. It made me a shitload of money and I bought a skidsteer, watched the youtube videos to run that and then made an even more money. I did all the maintenance myself which is how I stayed ahead of most costs. It was one of the best times of my life. Highly recommended. Good luck!
It’s a mega-corp, so not really flexible. I did just find out that one of the C-suite guys is in town. That’s why i got notified lol. Now instead of a blank screen, there’s gonna be like 30 pics of me flagged doing profane gestures lol.
