At the moment inflation in the US is not too bad, as there are still many other currencies that are doing worse, so the global reserve currency is being held as a safer, more stable currency. Take Argentina as one example of where the US dollar is being propped up.
If something like a BRICS+ common currency - possibly backed by gold - becomes available to the public, then expect the USD to really inflate as those dollars migrate home.
The US/CIA always has the ability and the desire to destroy another country, and destroy its financial system, meaning it could add to demand for dollars. So I think the dollar is going to be defended for a little while yet.
