APOCALYPSE ANONYMOUS by
ATOSHI ANARKOMOTO
A monk was washing his feet in a river when he noticed a scorpion struggling in the water. Knowing that scorpions cannot swim, he gently reached in to rescue it. As he lifted the scorpion, it stung his hand. Despite the pain, the monk dropped the scorpion and tried again, only to be stung once more.
A passing boy, witnessing the scene, approached the monk with curiosity. "Why do you keep trying to save the scorpion despite being stung so many times? It seems so ungrateful."
The monk replied, "Just as it is the nature of water to make us wet, it is the nature of the scorpion to sting. Yet, just as a tree provides shade to anyone who seeks it, without judgment, it is my nature to help. The scorpion's sting is its nature, but my nature is to assist."
Reflecting on this, the monk took a twig with leaves from a nearby tree and carefully rescued the scorpion from the water, eventually saving its life.
Moral:
•▪︎• We should remain true to our nature and values, regardless of how others behave. Even when faced with harm or hostility, we must not let others' actions change our true nature. Instead, we should act with integrity and take necessary precautions.•▪︎•
